For more than 35 years, World AIDS Day has taken place on December 1. It reaffirms the rights of people living with HIV and calls for a society free from prejudice and discrimination. It also commemorates those who have died from AIDS-related illnesses. World AIDS Day is a moment of solidarity, awareness – and a call to stand together against ignorance and exclusion.

Campaign 2025

Discrimination and ignorance are closely linked. Even today, many people living with HIV experience prejudice and exclusion – often because only 22% of the population knows the principle U = U: under effective treatment, HIV is not transmissible.

To mark its 40th anniversary, the Swiss AIDS Federation is launching a nationwide poster campaign with three strong, typographic visuals – visible in train stations, on streets and in specialist institutions. Its message is clear: only knowledge protects against discrimination.

Data on HIV and AIDS

The epidemiological data on HIV and AIDS in Switzerland and globally presents a differentiated picture: while in Western countries certain groups are particularly affected, in many other countries it is the entire population. In many regions of the world, new infections are on the decline. But Western countries in particular are investing too little to achieve the 2030 targets.
