World Aids Day has been held on December 1 every year for more than 30 years. It commemorates the people who have died as a result of HIV/Aids and stands in solidarity with the more than 17,000 people in Switzerland who are living with HIV. Despite good medical care, stigmatization and discrimination reduce quality of life.
This year, the focus of the campaign is on the younger generation, with videos on social networks, flyer-stickers, and posters featuring Melanie, Yannick, and Gleisson, who with remarkable courage affirm their life realities with HIV without compromise! Living with HIV is a fact, not a problem - THAT’S IT!
People with HIV who are successfully treated cannot pass on the virus – not even during sex without a condom. Young people like Melanie and Yannick, who are living with HIV, tell us how carefree their everyday life is thanks to successful treatment on the occasion of World AIDS Day 2024. Nevertheless, prejudice and ignorance continue to burden many people with HIV.
The epidemiological data on HIV and AIDS in Switzerland and globally presents a differentiated picture: while in Western countries certain groups are particularly affected, in many other countries it is the entire population. In many regions of the world, new infections are on the decline. But Western countries in particular are investing too little to achieve the 2030 targets.
Report to the Swiss AIDS Federation if you have been discriminated against or if someone you know with HIV has been discriminated against.
