Treatment

In most cases, a sexually transmitted infection (STI) can be treated and cured without any problems. HIV cannot be cured, but it can be treated effectively.

Treating sexually transmitted infections

In most cases, a sexually transmitted infection (STI) can be treated and cured without any problems. If undetected, however, an STI can cause damage to health over time.

Treating HIV

HIV medication reduces the number of HIV pathogens to such an extent that the virus is no longer detectable in the body. This means that people with HIV are no longer infectious when they are successfully treated. Their life expectancy is also similar to that of people without HIV. However, HIV is not curable, because the drugs cannot completely destroy the virus.
