You can protect yourself against HPV with a very simple method: vaccination.

Recommended for everyone.

There are various types of human papillomavirus (HPV) that cause different diseases such as warts, precancerous lesions and cancer, for example on the cervix, anus, penis or throat. You can find more information on the clinical picture under STI: human papillomaviruses.

The vaccination consists of several injections at staggered intervals. Learn more about the benefits, risks, side-effects and costs from a healthcare professional.

Who should get vaccinated?

The vaccination makes the most sense before a person becomes sexually active. But the vaccine still provides protection in people up to the age of 45.

How is the vaccine administered?

Vaccination can protect against infection with the most important types of the virus. The current vaccine protects against nine different HPV types and thus against 95% of cancer-causing HPV types. The vaccination consists of several injections at staggered intervals and depends on the age of the person.

How much does it cost?

The costs of vaccinating 11- to 26-year-olds are covered by health insurance if the vaccination is part of a cantonal programme. No deductible is charged for this service. For people over the age of 26, it is advisable to weigh the benefits, risks and costs individually with a healthcare professional.
