Sexual health and HIV/STI in trans and abinary communities
Trans and abinary people have special needs in terms of prevention and treatment. If these can be identified and met, the sexual health of trans and abinary people can be promoted in the long term.
In collaboration with the Robert Koch Institute, Deutsche Aidshilfe has conducted a qualitative and quantitative study on the health of trans people over several years (published in April 2023). The study shows that the fear of stigmatization and discrimination continues to prevent trans people from accessing counselling services. While a lack of language skills on the part of specialist staff makes high-quality advice very difficult.
However, counseling services aimed specifically at trans and abinary people are particularly popular and successful. The recommendations developed from the study will enable trans and abinary-specific knowledge to be passed on to specialist staff and the quality of care to be improved.
